Important: These estimates are based on industry benchmarks and typical implementations. Actual results depend on your current processes, warehouse layout, team training, product mix, and implementation quality. Typical range assumes standard warehouse operations with moderate optimization. Results shown include a ±20% variability range to account for real-world differences.

Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate is this calculator?

Our calculator uses published industry averages, and every constant behind it is documented on our methodology page. Results carry a ±20% range to reflect real-world variation, and actual results can still fall outside it.

What costs are included in the ROI calculation?

We calculate savings from labor efficiency (35% in the typical scenario, applied to the 65% of warehouse hours a WMS touches, with 50% of that gain counted as cash), error reduction (down to a 0.15% error rate), and inventory carrying cost (12% reduction), net of an annual run cost of 18% of the build.

How long does WMS implementation take?

Build plus rollout runs 3 to 6 months depending on build scope, and the calculator counts payback from project start. We can provide a detailed timeline during consultation.

How the WMS ROI calculator computes your payback

The calculator turns five inputs, warehouse size, monthly orders, current error rate, hourly labor cost, and employee count, into an estimate of net annual savings. It sums labor savings on the 65% of warehouse hours a WMS touches, error savings at $50 per mis-shipped order, and inventory carrying-cost reductions, then deducts an 18% annual run cost and a modeled build cost to report payback from project start and five-year net value.

A worked example: 5,000 orders a month, 20 employees

  1. Inputs: a 50,000 sq ft warehouse, 5,000 orders a month, a 5% error rate, $25 per hour labor, 20 employees, on the typical scenario.
  2. Labor savings: 20 employees × $25 × 2,080 hours = $1,040,000 annual payroll, × 65% addressable share × 35% efficiency gain × 50% cash realization = $118,300.
  3. Error savings: 60,000 annual orders × 5% × $50 per error = $150,000 today; the model cuts the rate by at most 90%, to 0.5%, leaving $15,000, so $135,000 is saved.
  4. Inventory savings: 50,000 sq ft × $100 per sq ft × 25% carrying cost × 12% reduction = $150,000, bringing gross annual savings to $403,300.
  5. Build cost: $20,000 base + $15,000 floor area (50,000 × $0.30) + $10,000 volume tier + $3,000 team size (20 × $150) = $48,000, inside the published $30,000 to $64,000 single-site band; the 18% annual run cost is $8,640, so net annual savings are $403,300 − $8,640 = $394,660.
  6. Payback and five-year value: 4 months of rollout + ($48,000 ÷ $394,660) × 12 ≈ 1.5 months of recovery rounds to 5 months from project start; five-year value is $394,660 × (5 − 4/12) years − $48,000 = $1,793,747.

On these inputs the calculator reports $394,660 in net annual savings (range $314,000 to $475,320 at ±20%), a 5 month payback from project start, a 90% error reduction, and $1,793,747 in five-year net value.

Scenario multipliers

ScenarioEfficiency gainTarget error rateInventory reductionLabor realization

Typical35%0.15%12%50%

Labor realization is the share of saved hours that becomes cash rather than absorbed capacity. The displayed efficiency ranges are 20-30%, 30-40%, and 40-50% respectively.

Build cost and rollout model

ComponentHow it is priced
Base$20,000 flat
Floor area$0.30 per sq ft, capped at $45,000
Order volume$0 below 5,000 orders a month, $10,000 from 5,000, $30,000 from 20,000, $80,000 from 100,000
Team size$150 per employee, capped at $30,000
Integrations$8,000 each (WMS assessment variant only)
Real-time features$10,000 each (WMS assessment variant only)
Rollout period3 months below a $45,000 build, 4 from $45,000, 5 from $80,000, 6 from $150,000, 7 from $200,000

Payback is counted from project start, so the rollout period is added before savings begin. The model is calibrated to the published WMS build bands: typical single-site profiles land in the $30,000 to $64,000 band, multi-site and RFID-scale profiles in $80,000 to $180,000+, capped at $250,000.
