Question 1 of 8

What's your project scale?

What the stack selector actually weighs

The quiz asks eight questions: project scale, budget, timeline, team size, hosting preference, performance needs, mobile needs, and real-time needs. A rule-based recommender then picks one option per layer, frontend, backend, database, and hosting, from three to four fixed branches each. Project scale, timeline, mobile, hosting, real-time, performance, and budget answers decide which branch fires; within a layer the first matching rule wins.

A worked path: an MVP on a lean budget

  1. Answers chosen: MVP / Prototype scale, under $25K budget, 1-3 month timeline, no team yet, serverless hosting, basic performance, mobile-responsive web, no real-time features.
  2. Frontend: the MVP answer (the 1-3 month timeline alone would too) fires the rapid-MVP branch: Next.js, React, Tailwind CSS, recorded as "Next.js for rapid MVP development with built-in SSR".
  3. Backend: the serverless hosting answer takes priority over every other backend rule: AWS Lambda, Node.js, API Gateway, recorded as "Serverless architecture for cost efficiency".
  4. Database: with no enterprise, extreme-performance, or critical real-time answer in play, the under $25K budget fires the low-cost branch: PostgreSQL, SQLite, recorded as "PostgreSQL for cost-effective scalability".
  5. Hosting: the serverless preference maps to Vercel, AWS Lambda, Cloudflare.

This path resolves to Next.js + React + Tailwind CSS on AWS Lambda with PostgreSQL and SQLite, deployed via Vercel and Cloudflare, with a 97% match score: all four layers were driven by a specific answer, and the score is 85 plus 3 points per answer-driven layer.
